Invisalign – A Clear Option
Many teenagers and adults are skeptical of getting braces because people do not like the way metal braces look, but Invisalign provides tooth alignment and bite correction that does not draw attention to itself.
The thin, clear colored oral appliances fit snuggly over your teeth and are replaced every 2 weeks from the time you get the first set until you finally have a perfect smile.
Custom Aligners for Better Alignment
After taking x-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth, your dentist will submit an order to Invisalign. They will use YOUR x-rays and impressions to create a digital 3-D image of your teeth.
Your dentist will create a customized treatment plan to the movements of your jaw and how your bite lines up teeth.
You will then see a virtual representation of how your teeth will progress from their original alignment to the way they will be after treatment is complete. Your dentist will also use this information to tell you how long you can expect your Invisalign treatment will likely take.
Every Mouth is Unique – So is the Length of Treatment
Every patient has a different bite and unique tooth alignment, so every patient will have customized aligners and spacers, and a different length of treatment. However, adults’ treatment plans usually take about 1 year. For teenagers, treatment will take about the same amount of time as conventional braces.
Limitations of Invisalign
Invisalign offers an effective treatment for most people, unless the patient has more extreme alignment needs and tooth crowding. While conventional braces can push teeth together or pull them apart, the Invisalign system only effectively pushes teeth into place.
Sometimes, braces can be used first to pull crowded teeth into place and a follow-up treatment with Invisalign aligners can be used after a few months to complete tooth and bite alignment.
